The Potting Shed, Whitchurch, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
The Potting Shed in the village of Whitchurch started off as a secret garden café some years ago but because it’s such a lovely place it soon became not quite so secret and is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s nice; the ambience is laid back, cosy, intimate, a bit like going around to a friend’s house in some ways.
Food is good and honest fare, all prepared and cooked on the premises, with a lot of the ingredients grown in the garden, and everything else sourced within a few miles. On the lunch menu are baked potatoes, sandwiches, stuffed pancakes, and the likes of Today’s pie, Seabass fillet, and Broccoli and stilton quiche. In the evening it steps up to restaurant style food with dishes like Seafood stew, Medallions of venison with blackberry sauce, and Mushroom stroganoff on the mains menu. Special diets are catered for as long as they know in advance, and groups are welcome.
It’s just so nice the way they do things here; cream teas on the prettiest bone china, salads decorated with flowers from the garden where you can sit and enjoy the better weather. Isn’t that the sort of thing that being on holiday is all about?
The Potting Shed is just 3 miles from Monmouth and 6 miles from Ross-on-Wye.
