The Prince of Wales, Ham Hill, Somerset
Find the Prince of Wales high up on Ham Hill within the country park. The views out the back are glorious and it's lovely to sit there on a summers evening after a walk around the ramparts of the Roman fort. They absolutely love dogs here and they've thought of everything, with hosepipes to wash off muddy paws, bowls of water, and a jar of dog biscuits on the bar. The atmosphere is vibrant in the warmer weather, with live music on Sundays, an ice cream hut and a pizza oven, and you might even catch some Morris dancing. In the winter stop off for breakfast after an early morning climb up the hill and warm up by the fire. They host regular curry nights here, steak nights, and a pub quiz; the menu changes seasonally with a good choice of dishes created using locally sourced produce. Try water buffalo burger or Persian lamb tagine; chicken, bacon & leek pie or swordfish steak with a creamy coconut glaze. Tempting, isn't it?
Open 8.30 am-11 pm every day. Dogs welcome.
