The Strawberry Line, Yatton, Bristol, Somerset

The Strawberry Line is a 30 mile cycling and walking route in Somerset that runs from Shepton Mallet to the sea at Clevedon, following the former branch line that was part of the Great Western Railway until the late 1960s. Bit by bit, the route is being upgraded to make it easier for mobility scooters and buggies, with wide resurfaced paths taking you through open countryside that’s rich in wildlife.

The most used part of The Strawberry Line is the 10 mile stretch from Yatton to Cheddar, mostly traffic free, taking in a medieval town, quiet villages and apple orchards, and The Strawberry Line project where you can hire bikes and stop for tea and cake in the community run café.

Walk or cycle as much or as little of the route as you like, but plan it well so that you can allow time to stop for a picnic, or to make a short diversion for lunch at one of the pubs and cafes close by.
