The Walnut Tree Inn, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire
This renowned country inn and restaurant is actually two miles east of Abergavenny; it’s a lovely set up, the rural views are fantastic, the atmosphere relaxed and the food divine. The current chef is the acclaimed Shaun Hill whose Michelin starred restaurant in Ludlow was described as the 14th best in the world; so if you’re a true foodie you really shouldn’t miss this one.
A La Carte and set menus change daily as they’re dependent upon the availability of fresh ingredients; from the 3 course lunch menu is Deep Fried Plaice with Thai Chilli Dip to start, a main of Partridge with Jabron Potatoes and Herb Stuffing, and to finish, Pistachio Cake with Raspberries and Rosewater Ice Cream. On the mains from the A La Carte Menu are temptations such as Loin of Venison and Hash with Lingonberries, Wild Duck with its own Faggot and Morel Gravy, and Halibut with Carb, Mussels and Watercress Sauce.
