The Wiltshire Museum, Devizes, Wiltshire
Gold. From the time of Stonehenge. Worn by people who lived and breathed and worshipped in the world famous stone circle. How incredible is that? Just one of the award-winning displays at The Museum of Wiltshire, so if you’re looking for something to do when you’re on your holiday in these parts, get yourselves down there. What you’ll find is 500,000 years of the county’s history brought to life with amazing reconstructions and graphics. Where else could you see a musical instrument made from a human tibia, a gold and garnet necklace worn by an abbess in Saxon times, and the largest Roman coin hoard found in Britain? It’s fascinating stuff, so make sure you allow yourselves plenty of time to see everything. There’s a gallery trail for the kids, and they get to build Stonehenge, look at all sorts of interesting things under the microscope and don Bronze Age clothes.
