Village Greens Farm Shop at Denbies, Dorking, Surrey
Pop along to Village Greens Farm Shop at Denbies near Dorking and you’ll be staggered and the amount of fresh seasonal fruit and veg they have there. What’s more, some of it has been grown in their very own Victorian walled garden on the Denbies Wine Estate and in their growing fields nearby. Grab a basket and fill it with all the ingredients you need for a scrumptious lunch or dinner, and choose a bottle or two of wine from the on-site vineyard to wash it down. They have a big thing here about food being natural and ethical as well as local, so when it comes to their own produce they use traditional methods and they don’t use anything artificial – oh no, no pesticides, no insecticides, no fertilisers, all nice and natural, just the way God intended.
There’s a lot of local artisan fare too; freshly baked bread, cakes and pastries, soups, pates and dips, ice cream, organic beer and spirits, the list goes on.
Whether you want a big joint of meat for a Sunday roast, thick slices of bacon for breakfast, sausages for the barbecue or a whole chicken for a hearty casserole, what you can be sure of is that it’s all free range, and that all the animals lived a happy life in the fields beneath the Surrey sun. In fact nothing comes from outside a 20 mile radius of Village Greens Farm Shop at Denbies. Well, except the stuff the fish man sells when he pops along on Tuesday afternoons, but that’s allowed.
