Welcome to Ade Shindy, a place where happiness comes with a big fat capital H. This is a fantastic place to stay for large group holidays and short breaks deep in the East Devon National Landscape; 13 ensuite bedrooms sleep 26 and there’s an annexe available for 2 extra guests at an additional charge (see The Annexe). With exclusive use sessions of a heated pool (March-Oct), a shared games room and play area, this is for all ages – a great choice for multi-generational stays. Come for unforgettable holidays with friends and family, for extra special celebrations with the chosen few and for dignified hen and stag weekends.
When you stay at Ade Shindy you probably won’t feel the need to go far at all. Right on the doorstep are 52 acres of lush and lovely private grounds to explore with wide open fields, woodlands to wander, a stream and pond, and wildlife to look out for. If you want to go for a serious saunter nearby are the East Devon Way and the South West Coast Path – lace up your boots and away you go. Amble through the bluebell woods at Blackbury Camp just down the road, wind your way along the paths through The Undercliff Nature Reserve from Axmouth to Lyme Regis, or climb up to Golden Cap – the highest point on the south coast of England.
If you want to spend a day by the sea, take your pick of the beautiful beaches along the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast; go kitesurfing or paddleboarding at Exmouth, stroll along the promenade at Regency Sidmouth, soak up the timeless charm of Branscombe where flower hung cottages line the street that slopes gently down towards the beach and the backdrop is of wooded hillsides. Tuck into fresh crab sandwiches down by the shore at Ducky’s Beach Café in Beer, or have a drink in the clifftop beer garden of The Anchor Inn. If you’re feeling brave, go find the steep path and zigzag your way down to the tiny bay at Littlecombe Shoot.
Hop over the Dorset border to Lyme Regis and spend the day discovering this old fishing town; play mini golf in the town gardens, see a 73kg dinosaur poo at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, go out to the end of the harbour and catch a mackerel fishing trip, or sign up for a guide-led fossil hunt along the beach.
Check out our Things To Do pages and you’ll find heaps of inspiration for activities like golf, llama walking, quad biking, pony trekking and clay shooting. Make plans for fun-filled days out with the family – the kids will love Crealy Theme Park with all its rides and entertainment, or there’s Wildwood Devon where you can say hello to the animals, ride the zip wire and forge a penny in the Saxon village. Feed the baby animals and ride the Deer Train Safari at World of Country Life, get behind the wheel of seriously big earth movers at Diggerland Devon.
