Bearland Bikes, East Portlemouth, Salcombe, Devon
Go to Bearland Bikes for E-bike hire when you’re staying nearby at your large holiday house in Devon. This is something the whole family or a group of friends can do and if you plan it well, it makes an excellent day out. It’s just so charming, from start to finish; you can have the bikes delivered to you locally, or rock up at the farm at East Portlemouth and have a coffee before you set off.
Don’t worry if you haven’t ridden an E-bike before – it’s very easy, especially with the powerful Volt Pulse bikes they use. In any case, the people who run Bearland Bikes will show you what you need to know to and they can help you out with suggested routes. Maybe ride up to the lighthouse at Start Point or over to Prawle Point, the most southerly point on the coast of Devon, where it’s wild and rugged and on the way back you can go for lunch at the Pigs Nose Inn overlooking the village green at East Prawle.
Conveniently, there’s a Coffee Hut at Bearland Bikes so after you’ve had a good pootle about you can come back and drop the bikes off and round off your day with homemade lemonade or an ice cream from Salcombe Dairy. If the sun is still behaving, take your drinks up to the top field where the views are breathtaking, stretching far out over the Salcombe estuary.
You can hire E-bikes here year round by booking online or by phone. It really is a fantastic way to see the beautiful scenery, plus it’s so kind on the environment, which is wheely good (groan!).
