Pigs Nose Inn, East Prawle, Kingsbridge, Devon
The Pigs Nose Inn is a traditional village pub, bursting with character and packed with curiosities. It stands overlooking the village green at East Prawle, a lovely setting whether it’s summer and you sit outside in the sunshine, or whether it’s a blustery winters day and you’re inside warming your toes by the fire. In the past the building has served as a Victorian hotel, a smugglers inn used to store the finds from shipwrecks around the coast, and as a petrol station.
But a village pub is where it’s at these days and they certainly do it well. Food is wholesome home cooked pub food with a daily specials board, ingredients are sourced locally from growers, producers, farmers and fishermen. Have a sandwich at lunchtime – Pigs Nose Fishfinger, Local chargrilled steak, Honey & mustard roasted ham and Devon Cheddar, Vegan cheese & onion with South Devon Chilli Farm jam. If you want something more filling choose from the likes of Classic fish and chips, Beef & blue burger and the Pigs Nose pub lunch ploughmans. They also do wood fired Neapolitan pizzas with a choice of very tempting toppings.
What might surprise you is that the Pigs Nose Inn is one of the best independent live music venues in South Devon, hosting local artists and some very well known names – among them are Lee Scratch Perry, Atomic Kitten, Damon Albarn the Good, Dub Pistols and Paul Young Los Pacaminos.
