Churchstow, Kingsbridge, Devon

One of the best things about staying in Churchstow for your large group holidays in Devon is that it’s ideally placed for exploring the beautiful sandy beaches nearby. Bantham, one of the best surfing beaches on the South Devon coast, is only 10 minutes away, Thurlestone and Bigbury-on-Sea aren’t much further. So days by the sea are a given, whether you want to do watersports, build sandcastles, go rockpooling, or take a hearty hike along the South West Coast Path.

Other than that, it’s a lovely place to stay because off the main road it’s so quiet here and the surrounding countryside is absolutely gorgeous – miles and miles of gentle rolling hills, with woodlands and meandering rivers and views that words can’t match. You should definitely go to the village pub, The Church House Inn, for lunch or dinner because it’s a friendly place, the food is good, and it’s packed full of old pub character – not surprising considering it’s knocking on for 800 years old. It was originally built to provide rest and sanctuary for monks from Buckfast Abbey and later became an alehouse.

The village shop is handy for bits and pieces and there’s a small business park where you can hire e-bikes from e-Xplore Devon or surfboards and bodyboards from Tricoean Surf.
