Coat, Somerset
Coat is a peaceful and tiny hamlet on the edge of the Somerset Levels, about 8 miles from Yeovil and 6 from Langport. The larger village of Martock, with local shops, pubs, takeaways and cafes, is under a mile away, so within walking distance and worth a stroll around when you’re on your on your large group holiday in Somerset.
Most of the properties at Coat are built of the local Hamstone and are centuries old, with a mix of attractive cottages and commodious farmhouses that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Amble around the lanes or walk out onto the unique landscape of the Levels – easy walking because the terrain is flat and there are very few hills. There’s a good circular through the fields along the banks of the River Parrett to the nearby village of Kingsbury Episcopi; along the way you’ll take in cider apple orchards that are frothy with blossom in the springtime.
