Crewkerne, Somerset

Crewkerne is a typically quiet rural town and it's rather nice to come here and spend a few hours mooching about; there are two supermarkets if you need to stock up on provisions, and there's a very good butchers. The town is popular locally with antiques lovers, with several quirky shops that are great for unique interiors and vintage bits and pieces. About half a mile or so from the town centre is the eclectic Antiques Bazaar, well worth a browse of the various stalls and a bite to eat in the quirky café. Up behind the town is Bincombe Beeches Nature Reserve where you can see extensive badger setts and admire the panoramic views over the rooftops and across the hills. Tucked away in a quiet little street is the glorious 15th century church of St. Bartholomew’s, a gem for its ecclesiastical architecture and attractive setting. If you're feeling peckish try Oscar's Wine Bar or Bilbys in town, or head out to The Lord Nelson at Norton-sub-Hamdon or the Lord Poulett Arms at Hinton St George.
