Family Cycle Trail, Forest of Dean
Here's a great thing to do on your large family holiday in The Forest of Dean! The Family Cycle Trail is a 9 mile circular that takes you through beautiful countryside and villages, passing attractions like Mallards Pike Lake, The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and Cannop Ponds. If 9 miles sounds like too much, there’s a shorter trail of 5 miles.
The beauty of it is that it follows specially surfaced paths, largely along a historic railway line, though there is one small part that’s shared with traffic. You’ll also pass former coal mines, something this part of the Forest of Dean is well known for and why this route is also called The Colliers Trail. There are designated Fun Zones with technical features to enjoy, and you’ll find several good spots where you can stop for a picnic.
Bikes can be hired from Pedal a Bikeaway at Coleford or from the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre at Cannop where there are toilets, a café and shop. There’s a map online that can be downloaded.
