Picket Post, Burley, Ringwood, Hampshire

It’s worth going here for a walk with your pooch because it’s so pretty and the views are amazing, or you could tie it in with a day out exploring the area around Ringwood.

There’s a car park between the village of Burley and the A31 so park there and head south/south west so you get away from the noise of the traffic. You’ll go through forest and heather clad heaths where New Forest ponies feed and you’ll probably want to stop and take a few pics as it’s all so lovely. Walk as far as you like on ancient tracks that have been used for centuries by the New Forest commoners and their livestock, then go to the village and wander round looking at the thatched cottages; it’s like stepping back in time. If the Queen’s Head is open, pop in for a pint or lunch.
