Tall Trees Trail, Dunster, Somerset
Just outside the medieval village of Dunster on Exmoor you'll find the Tall Trees Trail; 600m long, meandering in and out of some very tall trees and over a little stream. Wide and even waymarked trails are suitable for buggies and wheelchairs, though the walk is popular with cyclists and walkers on longer trails through this shady grove originally planted in the 1870's as an arboretum for the Luttrell family who lived in the castle that stands on the hill overlooking the village. Of note is a particularly lofty Douglas Fir - at 61.3m high it holds the accolade of England's tallest tree; there's also a magnolia that's 24m high and growing - apparently quite a record.
