The New Inn, Dowlish Wake, Somerset
A charming archetypal country inn in the picturesque village of Dowlish Wake, near Ilminster in Somerset. Like most of the houses here, it's built of the local honey coloured stone and out the back is a pretty beer garden; food is pub favourites, with home-made beefburgers, sandwiches, warm filled ciabattas, Ploughmans and baked potatoes on the lunch menu, or for mains, smoked haddock and mozzarella fishcakes, beef and ale suet pudding, and vegetable and nut roast are among the tempting dishes on the menu. They have steak nights and quiz nights – as a village pub should. Whilst you’re here, have a stroll around the village and pop into Perry’s Cider Mills where you can see apples being pressed and sample the ciders before deciding what to take home with you.
