Once at the heart of a busy working farm, Inwood Farmhouse has undergone a very considered transformation which sees the essential Georgian character melded to perfection with luxury modern interiors. The vibe is relaxed country living for happy group stays in Somerset.
The House
Step inside the door to the huge kitchen/entertaining space. On one side there's a very smart and well-equipped kitchen with a long 'bar' to sit at, and on the other, a lounge area with a sumptuous U-shaped sofa. The room is light and airy, bright and capacious, perfect for gathering together. Left of the kitchen a wide hallway leads to a utility room with a loo, and to the dining room where a bespoke oak table sets the scene for those happy celebration feasts.
And for the ultimate relaxation, to the right of the kitchen/entertaining room is the spa area with a treatment room, beauty bar and air hockey; down at the end there’s a glass fronted sauna and a shower room with WC. Continue round to the rustic style bar/mini kitchen where there’s a big sofa and the indoor hot tub. Full height doors open to the courtyard with a bar, barbecue, and outdoor furniture.
Bedrooms 1-5 are on the first floor, Bedrooms 6-8 are on the second floor. All have country views and ensuite bathrooms or shower rooms. Bedroom 1 (Stone Close) makes a good family suite as it has two adjoining rooms and an ensuite bathroom; Bedroom 5 (Sky Lane) has a free-standing bath in the bedroom, right in front of the window, and doors opening onto a veranda.
Local Area
Kick start your day with a hearty breakfast at Kitchen at Quantock Lakes, just a stone’s throw from the house. Then pull on your boots and go explore the rufty-tufty Quantock Hills; wander up through sun dappled combes to the heather clad heaths, walk along the ridge for views across the Bristol Channel to Wales, look out for red deer and wild ponies grazing, plan a pit stop at a country pub for lunch.
Just up the road is Nether Stowey, a big village where you can have a look round Coleridge Cottage (NT), where Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived for a while. A little further is Fyne Court where you can wander the woodland trails and go pond dipping; also very lovely are The Walled Gardens of Cannington where the feels are so relaxed.
A few miles away at Bishops Lydeard you can visit the working water mill then hop on the steam train for a pootle through the countryside with the West Somerset Railway. Alight at Dunster for a stroll around and to see the medieval castle that stands on the hill above the village.
Little ones to amuse? Take them to see the animals at Tropiquaria Wildlife Park or Doniford Farm Park, or plan a trip to the seaside and head to the wide sandy beaches at Blue Anchor or Minehead.
This is an area with something for all ages; love your holiday in Somerset, enjoy the luxury of being together.
