Churchill, Somerset
A large village with a big community, Churchill stands on the edge of the Mendip Hills Natural Landscape, 8 miles from Weston-super-Mare and just over 5 from Axbridge – Somerset’s smallest town. Quiet villages grow over the years and Churchill is no exception with a lot of modern development as well as the older cottages and houses you’d expect; the parish has local shops, three churches, four pubs, a leisure centre and a primary and secondary school.
If you don’t live here you might come for activities including archery, axe throwing and skiing at Mendip Activity Centre, or you might put on your outdoor togs and go for a good hike up to Dolebury Warren, an Iron Age hillfort with commanding views out over the North Somerset landscape. It’s also a starting point for cycle rides along The Strawberry Line, a traffic free route that was once a branch line of the Great Western Railway.
Go get your fill of fresh air and connect to nature or what you will, then go to The Crown Inn for hearty home made food and a pint of local ale or cider. When in Rome…
