We have some exciting news to share with you! A new property that’s great for all kinds of large group stays, and this time it’s a gem of a rural retreat tucked away in a lovely private location in the beautiful Somerset countryside. We say tucked away, and it is, but it’s still very easily reached from the M5 and the A303, and only a couple of miles off the A358, so easy to get to and well worth the travelling. Without any further ado, may we introduce to you Frog Street:
Just look at it! Wisteria scrambling up the front of the house, cottage garden flowers tumbling in the borders; isn’t it pretty? This gorgeous, rambling old former farmstead is actually a traditional Somerset longhouse, centuries old, and oozing character with bare stone walls, big inglenook fireplaces, ancient elm beams, and Jacobean panelling; despite fairly low ceilings and smallish windows it feels remarkably fresh, and light and airy, but what really strikes you is the mellow and unhurried ambience; it’s a place to relax, somewhere you can unwind and let the push and shove of modern life just slip away, and there’s so much here to keep you entertained. In the garden there’s a spa lodge with a 5m swim spa and changing rooms, and out on the veranda is a bubbly hot tub where you can sit back and look out over the countryside. There’s a BBQ lodge with an outdoor kitchen so you can dine out there rain or shine; tell jokes, swap tales, get someone to bring a guitar so you can have a sing-song; it’s what holidays are made of. The garden at Frog Street even has a play area with football goals and heaps of space to run around so the young ‘uns will be in their element. Bring it on, we say.
6 en suite bedrooms sleep up to 14 people and you’ll wake each morning to wonderful views over the fields where the tree tops rustle in the breeze and horses swish their tails as they happily graze. Get yourselves down in the homely farmhouse style kitchen and knock up some big fat bacon sarnies to set you up for the day; you might even spot deer feeding at the edge of the wood whilst you're frying. If the weather’s being kind take a jug of coffee out to the little courtyard at the front of the house and sip it in the fresh air. Then get out and explore, even if it’s just a walk through the fields to Curry Mallet where you can have tea and cake in the little garden at the village shop, or go to the Bell Inn for lunch. Otherwise, head into Taunton for a browse around, or go and explore the Blackdown Hills, or the Somerset Levels; you’ll find cider farms where you can sample the wares in utter rusticity, historic houses to visit, busy market towns to mooch about, and within easy reach, the Jurassic Coast where you can go fossil hunting at Charmouth or go to Lyme Regis for a mackerel fishing trip, have a game of crazy golf, visit the aquarium or the Dinosaur Museum.
In the evening book a table at one of the pubs nearby and go out for supper; you can stroll along the lanes to The Hatch Inn, or just a couple of miles away is The Farmers Arms. If you want to stay in you shouldn’t have any trouble cooking up a scrumptious feast as the kitchen is very well equipped, but you could save yourselves the bother and hire one of our recommended caterers to come and cook for you. That’s something that a lot of our guests do as a treat, or if they’re celebrating a special birthday or anniversary, and it’s a good idea because it makes it all more sociable, more of an event.
Whilst you’re waiting to dine have a game of pool or table football in the games room, and when you’ve had your fill settle down for the evening in the big sitting room; comfy podgy sofas where you can put your feet up, get out the board games or put a movie on the widescreen TV and take your ease together before you head up timber hill for the night.
The things is with Frog Street is that it’s a dream anytime of year; in the summer you can leave the big old front door open and escape from the blazing sun in the cool of the house, or just chill out in the garden with clear blue skies above you. Just imagine it in the autumn – walks into the fields just steps from the front door; come back, leave your muddy boots in the porch and go and snuggle round the wood-burner with mulled wine to warm you. And Christmas time! If you’ve ever wanted an idyllic country Christmas now’s your chance.
See why we’re so animated about it? It’s just perfect all round; perfect for families, for friends, team building groups and corporate hospitality. Absolutely perfect in every way. Check the availability calendar and pick a date, then get thinking, get organising and start getting excited.
