CARPE DIEM! For those who don’t already know, that’s Latin for SEIZE THE DAY. Pound Farm is tucked away in a quiet corner of Somerset; somewhere you can slip away to for a few days and be in a world of your own. With an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and games room it’s a wonderful diversion from the craziness out there.
Wouldn’t that be nice? A 3 night weekend, a 4 night midweek break, or a whole 7 nights, snucked away in this gorgeous rambling old farmhouse, out in the country with loads to keep you happy, plenty to play with. There’s an awesome indoor pool for a start and it’s all yours! You don’t have to book it, you don’t have to share it, you can use it whenever you like, as much as you like. Same with the hot tub. And the sauna. And the games room. And the pretty walled garden.
Fantastic, isn’t it? Staying in a hotel ain’t as much fun. It’s not very relaxing, but a holiday cottage for 6 with a private indoor pool? Now you’re talking. If you’d love a few days away where everything feels normal, then a stay at Pound Farm will tick all the boxes. Just imagine, you can get here on a Friday afternoon, get straight into your cozzies and jump in the pool! Chill for a bit then go and sit in the sauna and have a natter, and if you’re up for it and it’s not too cold for you, get in the hot tub. Watch the stars come out, put the world to rights (not easy).
Spend the evening with a bit of friendly competition in the games room; play pool and table tennis, pass the crisps round. Get together in the dining room for a delectable dinner, pop a few corks, enjoy yourselves, bring back the smiles. Don’t worry about stopping at the shops, there’s no need to; get organised a few days before you leave and you can have a delivery from Dart Fresh, or one of the supermarkets. Have a look at the Extras page and you’ll find recommended suppliers who will deliver homemade frozen meals to Pound Farm for you, so all you have to do is pop them in the oven.
If you’re celebrating a birthday or something you can even get a cake made and delivered, and balloons and flowers. You might not be able to have the party you wanted but you can still have a good time, and you will, we promise you will, because Pound Farm is such a lovely setting for it. You might even find that some of our tried and tested caterers can do things safely and are happy to come and cook a special feast for you.
If you’re in Somerset for a few days it would be wrong not to get out and stretch your legs, get a blast of that fresh country air. You can stride out from the doorstep at Pound Farm and find footpaths through the fields. Wander down to the village and have a bite at the Lethbridge Arms, or if you fancy going further afield get out in the wilds of the Quantock Hills. Hear ravens cronking, look out for red deer, walk up to Wills Neck for breathtaking views, have a ramble up through Holford Combe to the bracken clad hilltops where wild ponies feed. This time of year it’s glorious with all the reds and greens and golds of autumn. Tie it in with lunch at The Carew Arms at Crowcombe, or a visit to The Farmers Arms at Combe Florey on your way back.
Light the fire when you get back to Pound Farm, pour yourself a hearty glass of red and curl up on the sofa; enjoy the peace and quiet, togetherness time with the fam. Maybe have a dip later, before you turn in, before you climb the wooden hill to blanket land. Lovely, snuggly thoughts, aren’t they? Well, that’s exactly what an autumn break at Pound Farm is all about; gentle days, restful nights. It can be yours, make it happen. Carpe diem.
