On the edge of the quiet village of Charlton Musgrove, Overbrooks sleeps 14 in 7 bedrooms over a beautiful country house and timber clad annexe that stand in over 5 acres of private grounds with pretty landscaped gardens, large lawns to play on, and a paddock. There’s a hot tub for use all year round, a games area, and a trampoline, so it’s very much a house for all ages, perfect for multi-generational stays, family celebrations and days away with friends and their children. All around is the glorious Somerset countryside and a multitude of things to see and do.

The National Trust’s Stourhead estate is very close by, so go and explore; stroll around the world-famous gardens with lakes and follies, a grotto and a Gothic cottage, like something from Hansel & Gretel. Take a tour of the Palladian style house and see the treasures, wander out to King Alfred’s Tower and down to the village for lunch at The Spread Eagle Inn.

Less than 10 minutes drive is Bruton, a small but very charming town with a mix of eclectic independent traders and fantastic places to eat, including Matt's Kitchen and At the Chapel. On the edge of town is the well-known Hauser & Wirth contemporary and modern art gallery with its Roth Bar & Grill, and outside, the striking Oudolf Field landscaped ‘garden’ (the inspiration behind the prairie style garden at Overbrooks).

If you enjoy a leisurely browse around a town, there are some good ones within easy reach, small market towns with a laid-back air and mostly local shops; Castle Cary has a lovely air about it, especially when the market is on and the stalls are bustling with people filling their baskets with local goodies. Shaftesbury is lovely, with its famous cobbled Gold Hill and high on the hill, the abbey founded in 888. Sherborne is another good one to visit on market day, and if you go, allow time to visit Sir Walter Raleigh’s Sherborne Castle and the beautiful Abbey, hailed as ‘the cathedral of Dorset’.

A great day out can be had in Salisbury where you can shop, walk along the water meadows, and see the Magna Carta or take a Tower Tour at the Gothic cathedral. And Bath is amazing, with so many sights to see – among them the Roman Baths, The Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge. For family outings out you’ve got quite a choice with attractions like Haynes Motor Museum, Longleat, Wookey Hole and a little further afield, Stonehenge.

If you’re looking for activities to keep you all smiling, or as a birthday treat, get glammed up for a race day at Wincanton Racecourse, book a bird of prey experience at Pitcombe Rock Falconry, or book up for muddy adventures with Xtreme Offroad. These are happy times, with fun to be had and memories to be made! Book your large group stay at Overbrooks today!
